Argos Posts 125 Per Cent mCommerce Sales Increase

Argos saw mCommerce sales grow by 125 per cent year-on-year in 2012, helping push its total sales for the year up by 1.1 per cent.

Online sales made up 42 per cent of Argos’ total sales in 2012, with mobile’s growth pushed by adoption of “new tablet and smartphone apps and improved website functionality”, according to Terry Duddy, chief executive of Argos’ parent company Home Retail Group.

The results focused on the Christmas trading period (2 September 2012-5 January 2013), which saw total sales increase by 1.5 per cent.

Duddy also pointed to an increasing focus on this side of the business. “We are focused on delivering the transformation plan to reinvent Argos as a digital retail leader and the ongoing development of the Homebase proposition,” he said.
