App Store Search Breaks Down

Apples App Store is currently afflicted by search problems.
The issues are excluding popular iOS apps from search results, unless the user already has them installed on their device. 9to5Mac also reports case of results showing apps for the wrong device, with iPhone-only apps showing in iPad searches.
The apps are still available on the store, theyre just significantly harder to find.
The problems appear to apply across iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch and, according to DownDetector, are concentrated in the US, mainland Europe and Japan. 
Apples support page acknowledges that the “service is not working as expected for all users”, but gives no further details or any indication when it might be fixed.
MacRumors reports that the issues also extend to iTunes, though this isnt acknowledged by Apple support.
