After just six months, the self-service tool – which offered a drag-and-drop interface for creating digital mags and publishing them on services like Apples own Newsstand – was shut down this July, seemingly as part of the deal with Apple.

Rumours of the acquisition were doing the rounds earlier this week. Apple has since confirmed the purchase to TechCrunch, but offered no details beyond this statement: “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

In other Apple acquisition rumours, theres been talk of plans to rebrand Beats Music, the streaming service Apple picked up as part of its $3bn Beats deal, possibly under the iTunes banner.
