Apple sold 75m units of its iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in Q4 2014, bringing the total number of iPhones sold since the first handsets launch in June 2007 to a rather impressive 700m.

Sales of the 6 and 6 Plus pushed iPhone sales up by 49 per cent year-on-year, according to CEO Tim Cook – ‘double the rate’ of the rest of the industry, up 26 per cent.

Cook also announced that Apple Pay is now accepted at over 700,000 locations in the US, thanks to the services recent integration in 50,000 Coca-Cola vending machines – a number thats set to hit 1m by the end of the year.

Apple also announced ResearchKit, an open-source software framework designed for medical research. It enables researchers to access data from the Health app – with the users permission, Apple is careful to add – including weight, blood pressure and glucose levels, as well as data from the devices accelerometer, microphone, gyroscope and GPS sensors.
