Argos Launches Gift Finder with Swipe-to-Like Interface

argos giftfinderFollowing an initial soft-launch, Argos has officially unveiled its 2014 Christmas Gift Finder web app, which uses a swipe-to-like interface reminiscent of dating app Tinder.

Developed by digital agency Convert, the web app uses an intelligent collaborative filtering system, with each users likes and dislikes contributing to and improving the apps recommendations, which was the reason behind the soft-launch.

The Gift Finder has already seen viral growth of over 300,000 visits during the soft-launch, 75 per cent of which have come from mobile devices. The average visitor has spent over three minutes looking through suggestions, and swiped through over 60 of the 6000 available gifts.

“With almost a quarter of our total sales now coming from mobile devices, we know shoppers are increasingly purchasing products on-the-go,” said Mark Steel, head of digital trading, marketing & operations at Argos. “Weve developed a rewarding mobile experience that is visually rich, thumb-friendly and intuitive to make Argos stand out from the crowd in the mobile battleground this year.”

“Within the Argos Gift Finder the customer only discovers relevant, intelligently recommended products, one at a time, which makes for quick and easy decisions,” said James Dye, co-founder of Convert. “It lets the customer drill down to a maybe list very quickly, then save, email the list or go straight on to purchase the items.”
