Ask Bongo Premium SMS Q&A Service Fined £70,000

BongoAustralian-based premium SMS provider Ask Bongo has been fined £70,000 and asked to repay charges after children in the UK ran up huge phone bills texting the Q&A service.

The Ask Bongo platform has been advertised during reality TV show ad breaks and at concerts, including One Direction, where the number was written clearly on wristbands but the charge was outlined on the reverse side in small print. The regulator PhonePayPlus has ruled that charges were not made clear.

One parent complained that their 11-year-old child had run up a £200 bill texting the service, where users can ask for information about themselves, someone else or any other question.

Parents may want to highlight a little thing we call Google.
