Bango and Indosat Bring Google Play Carrier Billing to Customers

indosat carrier billingMobile payments company Bango has partnered with Indosat, the leading Indonesian mobile network operator, to launch one-click carrier billing on Google Play for its customers.

The feature enables Google Play customers on the Indosat network to purchase games, apps, music and other digital content without the use of premium SMS messages or requiring a credit card.

The smartphone market in Indonesia is rapidly growing, with a 154 per cent increase in adoption in between July 2013 and July 2014. However, adoption is still only at 26 per cent, suggesting that growth will continue for several years.

Indosat has previously worked with Bango in 2012, activating carrier billing for BlackBerry World and Windows Phone Store users. Bango manages the complexities of launching mCommerce in a fast-developing market such as Indonesia, ensuring compliance with local tax and regulatory requirements as well as support for local currency.

“Indosat Carrier Billing with Google Play Store is the first of its kind in Indonesia, so we hope this service gives the convenience to Indosat customers to purchase applications, content, games and books through their mobile device without the need of using credit or debit cards,” said Alexander Rusli, president director and CEO of Indosat. “This service offering is also our commitment to the people of Indonesia that Indosat will always create new and innovative services to stay ahead of the competition.”
