BlackBerry has unveiled the SecuTABLET, the companys first foray into the tablet market since 2011s Playbook.

Developed by Secusmart, a company BlackBerry acquired last year, the tablet is based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The point of differentiation, as the name suggests, is an added emphasis on security, as the tablet uses the SecuSUITE for BlackBerry 10 software.

“Security is ingrained in every part of BlackBerry’s portfolio, which includes voice and data encryption solutions,” said Hans-Christoph Quelle, CEO of Secusmart. “National and international government customers have entrusted their voice and data communications with the Secusmart Security Card for years. This same technology is what secures the new SecuTABLET. Working alongside IBM and Samsung, we have added the last link in the chain of the Federal Security Network. Subject to certification of the SecuTABLET, German government agencies will have a new way to access BlackBerry’s most secure and complete communications network in the world.”

BlackBerry PorscheBlackBerry has also partnered with Porsche Design, a luxury fashion brand spun off from the car manufacturer, to create the Porsche Design P’9983 Graphite.

The smartphone puts an emphasis on its materials, including a graphite stainless steel frame, blackened glass, hand-wrapped leather on the back door cover, and a glass-like QWERTY keyboard. Each handset also comes with a unique Porsche Design PIN ID, in the format 2AAXXXXX.
