Coachella Prepares Festival-goers with Google Cardboard

coachella-cardboardCoachella festival, an annual music and arts festival held in Indio, California, has teamed up Vantage.tv to provide attendees with a special edition Google Cardboard headset that will familiarise them with the festival layout and give them a chance to get to know this years performers.

When Coachella attendees receive their Welcome Box containing the usual wristbands and information, it will also contain the Cardboard viewer and details of a Coachella VR app, which can also be accessed using Samsung Gear VR.

The app will provide users with 360-degree photos from previous years, interviews and performances from acts wholl be at this years festival, and a virtual tour of the festival grounds, letting them get to know the location of various stages and, perhaps more importantly, the restrooms and first aid facilities.

While the app is largely intended for festival-goers, it is also available to the public at large, and when the festival rolls around in April, users will be able to livestream performances, although there are no details yet on whether the streams will offer VR or 360-degree video. Vantage.tv, the company who designed the app, have experience with VR livestreams though, so those of us who arent treking out into the California desert may still be able to experience performances from the likes of Guns N Roses, Calvin Harris and LCD Soundsystem in virtual reality.
