AdaptiveMobile reveals the top five SMS spam campaigns
Mobile security firm AdaptiveMobile has released a list of the top five SMS spam campaigns bothering UK mobile phone users in 2012. Unsurprisingly, the 'mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance' texts topped the list.
The full list included a Quick Loans scam, in second place, which promises £950 if users visit a website; in third, accident compensation texts; in fourth, SMS spam promising to write off the recipient's debt; and in fifth place, pension review texts.
“SMS is one of the most established and popular mobile communication channels and is consequently more trusted,” said Ciaran Bradley, VP of Handset Security, AdaptiveMobile. “Scammers and spammers are very quick to respond to current events such as PPI mis-selling or the latest celebrity scandal and create scams around them. For this reason, it is very important that mobile operators are aware of the threats that their customers are under threat from.”
