Amex Partners with Twitter for Hashtag Purchases

American Express has announced a new collaboration with Twitter in which users can sync their eligible Amex cards with the popular social media site, and then tweet #hashtags to purchase Amex gift cards and other products from participating retailers.

According to Twitter, over 60 per cent of their users access Twitter using a mobile device, and of those mobile users, 86 per cent are more likely to be on Twitter several times a day. With the new Amex Sync option, users can now purchase items on the go using a mobile device simply by tweeting a hashtag.

“Based on the initial success of Amex Sync for offers, we know there is significant power in combining our assets with Twitter’s platform to bring value to Cardmembers and merchants,” said Leslie Berland, Senior VP of Digital Partnerships and Development at American Express. “Now, we’re leveraging our unique technology and closed-loop network to introduce a seamless solution that redefines what’s possible in the world of social commerce.”
