Adfonic: Android Adding Appeal for Advertisers
Android overtakes iOS
Android has overtaken Apple's iOS to become most popular platform for mobile advertisers, according to research from Adfonic. The Global AdMetrics Report for Q2, 2012, which draws data from thousands of mobile advertising campaigns, found that Android increased its share of ad impressions from 38 per cent in Q1, to 46 per cent in Q2.
iOS, meanwhile, declined from 45 per cent to 34 per cent over the same period. Android had already overtaken iOS in the US in the first quarter, and now leads iOS in Europe for the first time, with 43 per cent of ad impressions.
"The growing dominance of Android across Adfonic’s global advertising marketplace reflects wider industry trends that we are seeing from other sources, and highlights widespread consumer adoption of the increasing number of Android-powered devices," says Adfonic CMO Paul Childs.
While the power shifts from Apple to Google, the two remain dominant in global ad impressions, with 80 per cent of global ad inventory, reflecting their dominant consumer experience.
