CaixaBank, Telefónica and Visa Collaborate on MWC NFC Trial
CaixaBank, Gemalto, Telefónica and Visa Europe have been named as the payment partners for the GSMA's NFC Experience at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona next week.
The four have collaborated on a mobile payments system which will be trialled at MWC, providing delegates with a pre-paid card provided issued by CaixaBank's MoneyToPay subsidary and an app developed by Telefónica Digital, which work with Visa's contactless payment technology.
3,500 delegates will have the chance to trial the system on an Xperia smartphone, provided by Sony, which will come pre-loaded with €15 which can be used to pay at Visa contactless terminals in the Gran Fira venue, around the city, and in 700 taxis which have been equipped by Caixabank.
“The GSMA is excited to launch the NFC Experience for Mobile World Congress 2013, as it provides attendees with the opportunity to experience first-hand the potential that NFC technology holds both throughout the Mobile World Congress venue and in Barcelona,” said GSMA chief marketing officer Michael O’Hara. “We hope that all attendees will take the opportunity to experience the many benefits of NFC, from venue access to retail transactions to transport and much more.”
