First TransPennine Express Enables mTickets

First TransPennine Express (FTPE) has updated its iPhone app, enabling customers travelling to and from Manchester Airport to use their handset as a ticket. The update to the TPExpress app – which was introduced as a journey planner and ticket purchasing platform in October 2011 – has also added LBS functionality, providing live arrival and departure boards for users nearest stations.

“We are delighted that we have been able to introduce these added features to what has so far proved a very popular app”, says Vickie Tennant, FTPE’s eCommerce manager. “Customers travelling to and from Manchester Airport will now be able to plan their journey, buy their ticket and travel on FTPE services, all via their mobile phone.”

The mTickets could eventually be rolled out on all FTPE routes but are for now only available for direct journeys to and from Manchester Airport.
