The Kindle Fire HD is Ad-Supported

When Amazon announced its range of Kindle Fire tablets last week, one of the things that stood out about the devices was their price. The reason behind the relatively low price points has turned out to be the inclusion of built-in ads.

These ads – or 'Special Offers', as Amazon refers to them – appear on the Kindle's lock screen, and can be accessed from the Home screen via an Options button. According to Amazon, the ads means it's able to sell the devices at a lower price.

However, users will apparently be able to opt out of the ads, for a post-sale charge of $15.
