iPhone 5 Will be a Top Five Mobile Ad Device Within Six Months

Android has made a second consecutive month's gain in its share of global ad impressions, boosted by Samsung outselling all other manufacturers in Q2 2012. It now makes up 43 per cent of mobile ads served worldwide, but still lags behind Apple's 57 per cent, according to Velti's August State of Mobile Advertising monthly report. The Kindle Fire also made its first appearance in the top five devices on the global network in August.

But Velti says the release of the iPhone 5 will end this trend for Android, with the new smartphone expected to be adopted more quickly that the iPhone 4S. In the two months following the introduction of the iPhone 4S, Velti found that Android ad share plummeted by 5 per cent. It expects the iPhone 5 to take more than 25 per cent of total iOS mobile impressions in just six months.

“This is the first time we’ve seen Android net gains in two consecutive months, and it’s a drastic turnaround from the beginning of the year when Apple continued to soar,” said Krishna Subramanian, CMO of Velti. “But we also think the iPhone 5 is a game changer; within six months, iPhone 5 will likely become one of the top five devices on the exchange.”
