Starbucks Tests Out Wireless Charging with PMA
![]()
Starbucks has joined the wireless charging party, by testing PMA-compatible wireless charging spots in several of its Boston stores, to gauge customers’ reaction to wireless charging as opposed to traditional plug-in charging.
“We are always looking for ways to help our customers recharge, both literally and figuratively,” said Adam Brotman, Chief Digital Officer of Starbucks. “Wireless charging is not only the most convenient and simple way to recharge a mobile device, but it’s environmentally friendly – so it makes perfect sense for us to be working with the PMA to create a universal standard for wireless charging.”
It's the latest in a line of mobile initatives for the coffee chain - and its earlier forays seem to be paying off. This week, Starbucks announced that it has passed the milestone of 100m mobile payments transactions - and is now doing 2m mobile payment transactions each week.
