T-Mobile Pledges to Make NFC a Priority in 2013

Mobile operator T-Mobile says it is committing to NFC in 2013. In 2012, T-Mobile added a number of NFC-enabled smartphones to its offering, among them the series of Samsung Galaxy S phones, the Windows phone 8X, the Nokia Lumia 810 and the Google Nexus 4.

The launch of the Isis mobile payment platform last year, of which T-Mobile was a part, also garnered a good amount of buzz, and the proposed expansion this year will offer more T-Mobile customers the chance to use the NFC platform for payment in more locations throughout the US.

“This year,” wrote senior VP of product management, Brad Duea, in a T-Mobile blog post, “T-Mobile is bringing even more NFC capabilities to life. Beyond our current NFC offerings, T-Mobile is working with a number of partners to bring a variety of NFC technologies to market, including Chase, one of the first banks to sign onto the Isis program, which allows select Chase credit cards to function within the Isis Mobile Wallet. T-Mobile is actively working to make NFC a reality – today, tomorrow and down the road.”
