US Congressman Drafts APPS Act to Protect Mobile Privacy

Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson has released a discussion draft of the APPS Act to increase consumer privacy on mobile devices.

The APPS Act was inspired by the AppRights legislative project that was launched in July of 2012, in order to gain public opinion on the role of Congress in helping to ensure privacy and security for users of mobile devices. The feedback garnered from the project became the basis for developing the privacy principles incorporated into the bill.

“Many of you told us that simple mechanisms are important to protecting your privacy on mobile devices,” said Johnson. “After listening to these concerns, we have written provisions to address these concerns without threatening the functionality or integrity of the mobile apps that you love.”
