Mobile game developer Jam City’s TinyCo game studio, Fox’s video game division FoxNext Games, and Matt Groening, creator of Futurama and The Simpsons, have released the teaser trailer for their upcoming Futurama mobile game.
The trailer for Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow features the first new Futurama animation since the show was cancelled back in 2013, and Jam City says it is working with the writers, animators, and cast to produce more original animations.
“I'm proud to say that Futurama lives. In mobile-video-game teaser trailer form, anyway,” said Groening. “If you squint, it's kind of like a little episode.”
The game developers say the game will ‘blend simulation, combat, galactic exploration, and choose-your-own-adventure mechanics together’. The game features two settings called New New York, which focuses on simulation; and Space Adventures, where players explore and battle across the Futurama universe.
“The Futurama universe is chock-full of exotic planets inhabited by wacky creatures (and Smizmars),” said Josh Yguado, co-founder, president and COO of Jam City. “Whether you're counseling an alien overlord on Omicron Persei 8 or battling rogue robots on the streets of Chapek 9, exploring this crazy universe and interacting with its denizens will be a blast.”
There is no official release date for the game but it will be available ‘soon’ via the Play Store, App Store and Amazon Appstore. People can also pre-register to be notified when the game is available here.
Having seen gameplay footage, it seems the game is almost identical to Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff and The Simpson: Tapped Out.
