Gett Taxi App Launches £6 Courier Service

gett deliveryTaxi-hailing app Gett (formerly GetTaxi) has launched a new service, enabling users to hire an on-demand courier within the centre of London for as little as £6, with the promise that the delivery person will be with you within 20 minutes.

The feature, called Gett Courier, launched today and operates between 9am and 9pm, with deliveries available out as far as TfLs Zone 3. Parcels have to fit into a standard A4 box and can weigh no more than 5kg.

Getts main app enables users to book a licensed black cab, and the deliveries for Gett Courier will be made by drivers who are currently studying The Knowledge, the test of Londons geography that all black cab drivers must pass in order to receive their license.

Rival taxi firm Addison Lee launched a similar service last year after acquiring Cyclone VIP Cars & Couriers, and boasts over 200 motorcycles, 200 vans and 30 bicycles in it fleet. While Gett has not disclosed the size of its courier service, there are at least 6,000 Knowledge students in London who would be eligible to sign up.

“We’re delighted to offer Gett Courier alongside our other products and services in the app, and we were thrilled to see our revolutionary on-demand services enjoyed by so many last year,” said Remo Gerber, UK chief executive for Gett. “With considerable customer demand for a more efficient and affordable courier service, we’re excited to now be bringing this service to busy Londoners.”
