Google Adds Gifts, Analytics, iOS Multiplayer to Play Games

Three in four Android users play games on their device, according to Google

Google has unveiled a range of engagement and discovery features it will be introducing to the Google Play Games service.

The first of these is the launch of specific in-app purchase ads, for promoting items that the player can buy in-game. Google is also introducing Google Analytics to the AdMob interface for insight into how users are interacting with an app, and promises new ways to optimise your ads to earn the most revenue.

It is also launching game gifts, a service which enables players to send in-app items to friends.

The Google Play Store will split its Cards & Casino section into two separate categories, bringing the total number of game categories to 18.

Finally, multiplayer functionality is being expanded to support iOS as well as Android, through an update to the Play Games Unity plug-in and the launch of a Play Games C++ SDK to support achievements and leaderboards.
