Google Adds Glass Wink Control and Outlines mCommerce Plans

Alex wearing Glass 1Google has announced a host of updates for Google Glass using requests from Explorers already testing the device.

Google Glass users will now be able to initiate Hangouts and upload content shot using the device directly to YouTube. A MyGlass iOS compantion app will launch later this week, the company said, for users to configure and manage the wearable device.

Google Glass also now offers users the ability to wink to take a picture rather than swiping the headset or using voice, a feature initially believed to compromise security when it was launched by Roundarch Isobar. A blog post on the announcements outlines the potential of things to come with this: “Imagine a day where you’re riding in the back of a cab and you just wink at the metre to pay. You wink at a pair of shoes in a shop window and your size is shipped to your door. You wink at a cookbook recipe and the instructions appear right in front of you – hands-free, no mess, no fuss.”

Google has also added a lockscreen function, with users able to input a series of taps and swipes to lock and unlock their device. Users can update their settings to make some of these changes, or head to MyGlass. Full details here.
