Google Adds Location Tracking to iOS Wallet

google wallet logoGoogle Wallet users on iOS will for the first time receive push notifications prompting them to visit their favourite shops as they are passing by.

Users who have saved a loyalty programme within the Wallet, available for stores like Walgreens and The Body Shop, will now receive messages alerting them to go inside if a relevant store is nearby. The feature can be turned off within the Privacy section of iOS Settings. With the latest update, users can now also upload loyalty programmes simply by scanning the card to autopopulate the fields.

The improvements have already been rolled out to Android users in the US. Like their Android-using counterparts, iOS users can pay people using just an email address and spend their Wallet balance or withdraw cash using the Wallet Card.

Google Wallet is compatible with devices running iOS 6.6 or more.
