Google and Ford to Partner for Driverless Cars?

Google-self-drive-car-cropped.jpgGoogle and Ford are planning a joint venture to build self-driving vehicles powered by Google’s tech, according to a report on Yahoo Autos. The site reports that the deal is due to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.

The move would make a lot of sense, giving Google access to Ford’s car-making expertise and experience, while at the same time fast-tracking Ford’s own self-driving car aspirations. As the report points out, Ford is at the very beginning of its driverless car testing plans, while Google has over a million miles of driverless car tests under its belt.

Both companies have declined to comment on rumours of the proposed partnership.
