Google is rolling out Assistant to a whole host of Android devices. The AI virtual assistant will no longer just be available on Pixel phones or through the Allo app, but will now be available on Android devices running 6.0 Marshmallow and 7.0 Nougat.

The Assistant will become available through an update to Google Play services. Users running Android M or N must have at least 1.5GB of RAM and a 720p screen to have the chance to experience Assistant on their device.

The staggered release of Google Assistant to devices has begun with rolling out to English users in the US. This will be followed by English users in Australia, Canada and the UK, and then German speakers in Germany. Google says it will continue to add more languages throughout the year.

Gummi Hafsteinsson, product lead for Google Assistant, said in a blog post: “Our goal is to make the Assistant available anywhere you need it. It came to Android Wear 2.0—via new smartwatches—just a few weeks ago and, as we previewed in January, the Assistant is also coming to TVs and cars. With this update, hundreds of millions of Android users will now be able to try out the Google Assistant.”
