Google Reportedly in Talks to Acquire InMobi

Google Logo IRLGoogle is reportedly in talks to buy India-founded mobile ad network InMobi.

The acquisition looks like an attempt by Google to grow its presence in the country and other emerging markets where InMobi is already well established.

Citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter, Indias Economic Times reports that negotiations between the companies are at an early stage and financial terms have not yet been established, but that InMobi is seeking a valuation of around $2bn (£1.4bn).

“Things were different last year, both for Google and InMobi,” said the unnamed source “While Google was not facing the amount of heat its witnessing today from Facebook on mobile, InMobi too was confident of raising another funding comfortably.”

InMobi has certainly been busy recently. Just last week, the company launched ‘Appographic Targeting’, an app-interest-based audience targeting capability that it claims is an industry first.

In February, it announced a strategic partnership with media group Starcom MediaVest in Europe that will give SMG’s clients access to InMobi’s ad offering and lead to the creation of a private mobile native advertising marketplace for brand advertisers.
