Google Reveals Top Searches of 2013

Google Search

Google has revealed the top trending search terms of the year – with Nelson Mandela topping the list, after the South African presidents death earlier this month.

Famous people whove passed away this year make two other appearances in the top 10. The second most popular term was Paul Walker, the Fast & Furious actor who died in November, while deceased Glee actor Cory Monteith was fourth.

iPhone 5S was the third biggest search term this year, peaking in the second week of September following Apples announcement. Interestingly, during that period, it attracted over twice as many searches as iPhone 5C, announced at the same event.

Its worth noting that these lists measure an increase in search traffic, rather than total volume. iPhone attracted more searches overall than iPhone 5S, for example, but saw a less sharp increase following Apples announcement.

Googles list for the biggest trending videos, meanwhile, features three viral marketing efforts: Evians Baby&Me film (fourth place), Volvo Trucks Epic Split, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme (sixth), and Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise (eighth), which was used to promote the movie Carrie.
