HarperCollins Launches The Hobbit App

Hobbit appHarperCollins publishers has launched a companion app for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in association with Warner Bros and developed by Aardman Digital.

Users of The Hobbit: Official Visal Companion can navigate a 3D map of Middle-earth and find information about the characters, locations and artefacts from the film and book series. The Android and iOS apps will be updated over the next two years with cast interviews from The Hobbit films and content for children.

“This is the first step toward HarperCollins vision for persistent storytelling worlds that will act as a hub for fans of The Hobbit worldwide,” said Nick Perrett, group director of strategy and digital at HarperCollins. “This exciting new experience brings The Hobbit universe alive and, will over time, develop as a platform for discovering the world of Middle-earth.”
