Huawei to Invest $1bn in Developer Support

ryan ding huaweiChinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has announced plans to make up to $1bn (£647m) available to support developers over the next five years in order to help software creators develop innovative services and respond to changing business needs.

The announcement took place at the companys first ever Developers Congress in Shenzhen, China, and was accompanied by the unveiling of its open ICT developer ecosystem strategy which aims to improve the companys enablement platforms and produce innovative solutions in partnership with developers.#

“Huawei has focused on ICT infrastructure, opened up its innovative and leading ICT solutions to developers, and built an open environment and enablement platform for the carrier and enterprise markets,” said Ryan Ding, executive director and president of products & solutions at Huawei.

The developer ecosystem strategy will see Huawei opening up its cutting-edge cloud computing, big data, IoT and mobile broadband technologies to third-party development as a way of fostering technical co-operation and cultivating talent.

The company plans on building a developer-centric platform which will help developers increase their efficiency when creating differentiated solutions, as well as starting a certification program and offering training and marketing advice to developers.

A number of Huaweis partner companies shared stories at the event of how they had made use of the firms open capabilities, including Beiming Software who spoke about developing a mobile bus operation system using Huaweis agile network access routers and IoT platform, and Hunan TV, who deployed a leading convergent media cloud.
