IAB: 12 of UKs Top 50 Finance Brands Have No Mobile Presence

NatWest12 of the UKs top 50 finance brands lack any mobile presence, according to research by the IAB.

The Mobile Finance Audit looks at the finance companies, including banks, insurers and loan providers, which spend the most on advertising in the UK.

26 of the 50 have an app – available in all cases on iOS, but only 20 on Android – and 34 have a mobile-optimised site. Compared to the IABs previous industry audits, these sites featured a much more widespread use of responsive design. 11 finance brands have responsive sites, compared to just one in retail and two in travel.

The IAB picked out Natwest, Bupa, and Hiscox as top performers – each has a mobile-optimised site as well as separate mobile and tablet apps for both iOS and Android.

“These audits have been a fantastic benchmarking tool to help us gain an understanding on where brands across retail, travel and finance really are with their uptake on mobile,” said IAB mobile and operations director Jon Mew. “It’s evident that whilst some brands have really grasped the fundamentals of mobile marketing some are still lagging behind. We hope to work with these brands more throughout 2014 to help them understand the possibilities and opportunities that mobile can offer.”
