InMobi and Box Launch Developer Challenge

Mobile ad network InMobi and online collaboration firm Box have teamed up to launch the Box Mobile Developer Challenge, a two-month long contest open to developers from around the globe. Entrants into the contest must use Box APIs to create enterprise apps for Android, iOS and webOS mobile devices.

There are several prizes on offer, including  cash, money to spend in InMobi’s ad network, and the chance to attend a VC pitch meeting with Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The overall winner will receive £16,000 in cash, plus £3,000 InMobi ad credits, a Verizon MiFi card, and a meeting with the VCs. Second prize is the same, but £6,000 in cash rather than £16,000. The developers of the 10 next best apps will each win a HP TouchPad tablet.

“This contest is a great way for us to help mobile developers around the globe not only build great apps, but also get an opportunity to turn their apps into a venture-backed business,” says Gregory Kennedy, director, Global Marketing at InMobi. “It’s because the enterprise mobile app market tends to be under-served that we felt there was a big opportunity here for up and coming entrepreneurs. We’re very excited to see what they dream up.”

Box CEO and co-founder Aaron Levie says that with the challenge, the companies are encouraging developers to build powerful apps that leverage the Box platform to reimagine how todays mobile workers engage with their content.

The Box Mobile Developer Challenge begins today, and concludes on 9 September, 2011. Winners will be notified during the final weeks of September and the top two will be invited to join Box on stage at its first annual customer conference in San Francisco on 28 September, 2011.
