Radio station KISS has teamed with interactive audio platform company Soniqplay.
The KISS Remixer app enables users to create a remix of selected songs from the KISS playlist. Each track can be bought for £1.99 via an in-app storefront, and is broken down into its various instrumentation and vocal elements for the user to fiddle with as they wish, and then share via social media.
Unusually, the app will only be available for iOS and BlackBerry, at least initially, which probably says something about its target demographic.
“We are excited about the KISS Remixer launch, and the range of artists we have participating in the app,” said Liz Cunningham, KISS’s head of commercial programming. “It’s a great way of getting our listeners creating content as well as creating a new digital revenue model for commercial radio.”
This apps and others like it could potentially offer a new revenue stream for music labels and artists, with each track bought via the app recognised by the Official Charts Company.
