Jobs in Tech Start-ups Grow 22 Per Cent

The number of jobs in UK tech start-ups has grown 22 per cent from 2012, with MindCandy, Skyscanner and King three of the biggest hirers – all have moved considerably towards being mobile-first companies during their short lifetimes.

The research, conducted by Silicon Milkroundabout and Adzuna, found that tech hubs around the country are hiring for 3,229 positions, with London leading the market with 34 per cent of openings, followed by Cambridge with 27 per cent, Brighton with 11 per cent and Bristol on 8 per cent. People are most widely needed in software as a service companies, followed by travel and holiday, retail and eCommerce and music.

Developers are in hot demand with1,122 jobs currently on offer, with marketing roles second at 642 and product jobs at 527. Start-ups are most eager for trendy Ruby developers, followed by iOS, Android and both Java and Python. Only 6 per cent of the roles on offer at Silicon Milkroundabout tomorrow are for graduates.

In another survey of tech workers conducted by Silicon Milkroundabout, 67 per cent said they would be “easily persuaded” to join a start-up and 25 per cent of people said they were “only considering a startup” for their next job.
