Mobile App/Site Testing Under-resourced

Keynote report March 2014

Keynote, which specializes in mobile and web cloud testing and monitoring, has released the results of its first State of Mobile Software Web and App Quality Survey, in conjunction with Software Quality Engineering (SQE).

The companies surveyed more than 1,600 mobile website and app developers, IT and quality assurance professionals. To help determine the state of mobile testing practices and tools, the survey asked respondents about the structure of their organisations, their most pressing challenges, and what tools and processes they are utilising to address those challenges and assure the highest levels of mobile quality.

It found that, despite accelerated development cycles and limited resources, users expectations of mobile app and website quality were the same or higher than desktop, forcing testing and QA professionals to do more with less. 47 per cent of respondents said functional testing presented the biggest challenge in testing mobile apps and websites.

“Today’s mobile users are difficult to satisfy and apps are easy to uninstall,” said Rachel Obstler, senior director of product marketing at Keynote. “However, the testing tools, processes and resources haven’t caught up with users’ high expectations, and management’s expectations of their mobile QA and testing teams. In order to meet mobile websites’ and applications’ market demand, implementing processes that include real device testing and automation capabilities will be key to meeting rising expectations.”

Keynote and SQE will present the complete survey results during an webinar on 27 March. You can register for that here.
