Ad tech firm Ooyala has unveiled AppStudio, a new turnkey over-the-top (OTT) solution for innovative video providers that aims to help build and deploy OTT app and web-based video experiences.
The solution is focused on maximising ROI for broadcasters, publishers and media companies as they take their content to OTT services, which are expected to be worth nearly $65bn (£49.8bn) over the next five years.
Ooyala AppStudio isn't launching until the second half of September, but will be previewed earlier in the month at the 2016 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam.
The solution hopes to mitigate the expensive custom development and integration costs typically associated with entering the OTT market, instead providing a customisable out-of-the-box solution that ensures customers can deploy premium OTT experiences on time and on budget.
Content providders will be able to automate the build of OTT apps directly within AppStudio for any device, supporting apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast as well as on iOS, Android and the web.
"Media companies want to tap into the fast-growing opportunity OTT represents, but have been held back by slow pace and high cost of developing apps for the broad array of connected devices in the consumer market. Ooyala AppStudio changes that," said Belsasar Lepe, senior vice president of products and solutions and Ooyala.
"There is tremendous growth in OTT demand particularly outside of the US where broadband and 4G connectivity is improving, making offerings accessible to huge new audiences. For local content providers who want to hedge against larger OTT incumbents entering their market, Ooyala AppStudio is a perfect fit."
