Opera Max VPN Introduces VIP Mode, Supported by Lockscreen Ads

Opera Max VIP ModeOpera Max, a free VPN for Android, has introduced a VIP mode to celebrate hitting 50m monthly active users. VIP mode offers users unlimited access to Opera Max’s data saving and privacy features.

Previously, the VPN only allowed users 12 hours of access before having to view an ad to restart the timer. With the VIP mode, users will be allowed continuous access in exchange for ads appearing on their lockscreens while their phone is charging.

This year, Opera Max has also introduced alerts to help users manage their background data – enabling people to monitor which apps consume the most background data. In addition, it introduced encryption and anonymisation of app data while on public wi-fi networks.

Opera Mediaworks, the company originally behind the VPN, is currently in the process of rebranding. This comes after a Chinese consortium, earlier this year, acquired the Opera mobile and desktop browser, its performance and privacy apps and technology licensing business From January 2017, the company will be known as AdColony.
