Oracle Sues Google Over Android

Oracle is suing Google over alleged software infringement. The software company accuses the search giant of infringing patents on its Java technology while developing the Android smartphone platform.

The lawsuit, filed yesterday in a California court, says that Google “knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracles Java-related intellectual property” while developing the Android platform. Oracle says the company is seeking “appropriate remedies”.

Last week, Google CEO Eric Schmidt claimed that Android phones were selling at the rate of 200,000 a day. The analyst Nielsen recently reported that sales of Android handsets have overtaken the iPhone for the first time in the US, with Android securing a 27 per cent share of smartphone subscribers, compared to Apple on 23 per cent.
