Periscope Launches on Android

Periscope on Android on Murphs phoneTwitter has launched its Periscope live-streaming app on Android. The app is available for Android Version 4.4 (KitKat) and above.

Feature-wise, the Android release offers everything the iOS version has, including the ability to live-stream publicly or privately; allow comments from other Periscopers the user follows; and interact with a broadcaster by chatting or sending hearts.

In addition, the Android offering has a few additional bells and whistles. Android users have granular control over additional Push Notification settings, such as ‘First Time Broadcast notifications’ (when somebody you follow on Twitter broadcasts on Periscope for the first time), and ‘Share notifications’ (when somebody you follow on Periscope shares somebody else’s broadcast).

In addition, Replays are saved without requiring the broadcaster to upload a file, which Twitter says should save broadcasters lots of time and preserve mobile data allowance.
Perhaps the most useful addition, however, is a ‘Resume notification’ feature that lets a user pick up watching where they left off, in instances where a broadcast is interrupted by something happening in their real life, like an incoming phone call for example.
The Periscope app is available to download on Google Play now.
