Samsung Unveils Kid-Friendly Galaxy Tablet

Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, a 7” tablet aimed at a younger audience.

At first glance, the tablet boasts a fairly comprehensive set of child-friendly features. It comes preloaded with a selection of educational and entertainment apps, and has its own Kids Store for downloading age-appropriate apps – which will make for an interesting comparison with the Kids App Store category which Apple is rolling out as part of iOS 7.

Parents will also be able to select exactly which apps they want their kids to have access to, through the Application Manager, and use the Time Management feature to lock after a designated period of use.

“It’s no secret that kids are using technology more than ever before,” said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung. “We saw an opportunity to create a device just for kids that provides them with an intuitive, fun and kid-friendly user experience filled with rich, interactive and educational content that parents will love.”

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), with a 1.2GHz dual processor and 1GB RAM.

The device will first launch in Korea at the start of September, before rolling out across the rest of the world.
