Singapore Coffee Chain Deploys Samsung NFC Stickers

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf café has become the first business in Southeast Asia to use Samsung’s NFC-enabled TecTiles to reward its loyal customers.

Samsung’s NFC stickers can be used at 51 outlets in Singapore between 8 February and 7 March 2013 to get a free larger drink. Customers with NFC-enabled phones like the Samsung Galaxy S3 who have also downloaded the app from Samsung or Google can tap their phones on the sticker and then ‘Like’ the CBTL Facebook Page to receive their upgrade.

“With the largest range of NFC-enabled Android devices in Singapore and the wide availability of TecTiles, Samsung is supporting both retailers and consumers to improve the way mobile devices are used for everyday tasks,” said Irene Ng, VP of marketing at Samsung Asia. “Retail businesses like The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf can transform how they engage with customers with diverse uses of Samsung TecTiles that realise the potential of NFC technology.”

Retailers can buy TecTiles from Samsung retailers in Singapore for around £14 for five. The manufacturer says they are easily programmable for use in stores. Consumers may also want to use them, the company says, to automate everyday functions like silencing the phone ahead of a meeting or setting an alarm.
