Social and Comms Apps Make Up Majority of Time Spent on UK Smartphones

messaging appsSocial and communication apps accounted for over 50 per cent of time spent on Android phones in the UK during Q1 2015.

Thats according to an App Annie report, which found that Facebook is the top app in the UK, ranked by time spent per active user, followed by WhatsApp and Chrome.

Games fared less well, with the UK spending less time playing gaming apps than any of the four other countries – the US, Germany, Japan and South Korea – covered in the report.

Japan rules the mobile games market, it appears, with the average Japanese Android user opening gaming apps 7.5 times as often as in UK users, and three times more than US users.

Nevertheless, games still make up around 70 per cent majority of revenues in the UK – though this pales in comparison to the US (80 per cent) and both Japan and Korea (over 90 per cent).
