Southampton Football Club Enters Augmented Reality

Southampton FC has become the first Football League club to use Augmented Reality technology in a marketing campaign developed by Blippar. Advertising banners across Southampton can be scanned with the blippar app, for access to the club’s website, team shop and ticket office.

The campaign also uses a rich media huddle feature, enabling users to place their face onto the Southampton FC team. The images can be shared via email, Facebook and Twitter, and will displayed across the city and on the programme for Southamptons home match against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

“We always place our fans at the heart of what we do so we are delighted to be able to engage them using such new technology, and to be leading the way in the use of augmented reality marketing by English football clubs,” says Chris Hayler, marketing manager at Southampton FC. “Our supporters now have the chance to access exclusive information and features at just the touch of a button, ensuring that they stay connected with the club wherever and whenever they wish.”
