Special Olympics Go Mobile

The Irish Special Olympics in Limerick recently became the first Special Olympics event to use mobile marketing to order to enhance visitors’ experience of the games. Using BlueZone Medias Bluetooth technology platform, BlueVibe, the organizers delivered mobile guides to visitors’ mobiles, complete with information on the games’ schedules and venues, along with local attractions and information about the area.

Bluezone Media developed the guide, which works in a similar fashion to a mobile site, containing 25 pages of information about the fixtures and venues in Limerick. The guide was sent to Bluetooth-enabled phones as the visitors to the games arrived at the venues. Signage prompted visitors to turn on Bluetooth as they arrived at the venues. Over 500 visitors to the Special Olympics downloaded the guide over the course of the games.
