Starbucks-Mobile-Order-PayStarbucks has completed the rollout of its mobile ordering and payment proposition across the US three months ahead of schedule, with the service now available at the companys 7,400-plus branches in the United States.

The final wave of expansion brings the service to Android mobile device users, and almost doubles the number of branches where mobile order and pay is available, including additions in major cities such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

The service is fully integrated into Starbucks popular app, which now boasts 16m active users in the United States, and which has proved one of the most successful examples of mobile payment adoption so far.

A number of features were added to the service before the final expansion, refining the options for food and beverage customisation, adding the ability to check local inventories for availability, and improving pick-up time accuracy.

According to Starbucks, feedback over the service has been excellent, especially for busy consumers looking to drop into branches quickly, and for hearing-impaired customers who have previously struggled to customise orders.

“Lines are shorter, service is faster and in-store operations are more efficient,” said Howard Schultz, chief executive of Starbucks, who has said that the service has bolstered sales and profits everywhere it has been introduced, even luring customers back who have been turned off by long lines and waiting times.

The mobile order and pay capability is set to be rolled out to select branches in the UK and Canada next month, and is likely to swiftly arrive in other markets too.
