Mobile payment platform provider SumUp has signed a deal with American Express allowing it to process Amex card payments through its mobile payment platform.
The SumUp platform consists of a free app for the iOS or Android platforms, and an external card reader that can be plugged into a mobile device, enabling merchants to accept credit card payments anywhere. Thus far, the mobile terminals have been limited to accepting Visa and MC payments. The platform is currently available in 10 European countries.
“It’s extremely frustrating for a merchants when they miss out on making a sale because they can’t accept the type of card a customer wants to use,” said SumUp CEO Daniel Klein. “The only person it’s more frustrating for is the customer who goes away empty-handed. That’s why we’re delighted that we will be able to process American Express card payments on behalf of our merchants and to the advantage of American Express’ thriving and deeply loyal customer base.”
