TabletTV Launches on Android

TabletTV betterMotive Television has launched an Android version of its TabletTV US and UK apps. The apps are available initially for Samsung 7” and 10” devices, with more to be added later this year. They enable users to watch and record over-the-air television (via Freeview in the UK) on their tablets. TabletTV is already available for the iPad in the UK and the US.

The Android apps increase Motive’s potential target market of TabletTV users by almost 75 per cent. According to figures from Statista, as of Q1 2015, based on global shipments, Apple had a 26.8 per cent market share of the tablet market, followed by Samsung on 19.1 per cent. Statista estimates that 38 per cent of the 321m tablets forecast by Gartner to be shipped worldwide during 2015 will use the Android OS.

“The addition of Android devices to the TabletTV family is a major step forward,” said Motive CEO, Leonard M Fertig. “The global potential market for TabletTV numbers is in the hundreds of millions – by the end of 2013 it is estimated that 6 per cent of the global population used a tablet and 22 per cent a smartphone. Further, the use of tablets for watching television is growing dramatically; as of December 2014 Mail Online reported that 17 per cent of the British population watched TV on their tablets. There is little question that TabletTV is the right product at the right time.”
