Tango Secures Abrazo Funding

OpenCloud,  which supplies open standards-based application servers for the deployment of next-generation convergent telecommunications services, has announced that Tango Networks has received first round funding of $25 million (12.7 million) for its Abrazo solution, which is built on OpenClouds Rhino platform.
Tango Abrazo enables any mobile phone to become a true PBX extension on the network for both out- and in-bound calling, and, says OpenCloud, is just one example of the hundreds of innovative new services being developed by OpenClouds partners using Rhino.
OpenCloud Rhino is a robust, carrier-grade, JAIN SLEE standard-compliant application server that provides continuous availability, low latency, and scalability.  It enables third parties such as Tango Networks to rapidly develop complex and robust applications in an open environment.
Tango Networks  was able to download OpenClouds Rhino Software Development Kit (SDK) free of charge and develop its Abrazo solution independently using the platform. Based on the products business benefits and robustness, Tango was able to secure first round funding of $25million from strategic partners including Motorola and Nortel.
Tango Networks success is just one example of the exciting solutions that our partners are able to build using Rhino says OpenCloud CEO Stephen Newton. The open standards approach finally allows telcos to move away from expensive proprietary platforms, and we are seeing a massive increase in the number of applications providers looking to take advantage of this new market.
In order to support the proliferation of applications providers such as Tango Networks, OpenCloud has developed its Partner Ecosystem to assist in the development, marketing, sales and deployment of solutions built on the Rhino platform. The Ecosystem supports third parties, including independent software vendors (ISVs), network equipment providers (NEPs), systems integrators (SIs) and the Java development community, across the value chain. OpenCloud Partners benefit from lower technology and financial barriers to market entry, reduced technology risk for building new services, and support for service development teams.  For enterprises and carriers, OpenClouds Partner Ecosystem gives them access to innovative applications and open platforms that can be seamlessly integrated with their existing communications infrastructure.
