Telmap has released a major update for its map and local search app M8, focused on widening its feattures and helping to monetise the free app.
It has partnered with hotel portal HRS, to add its booking service to the app's selection of local content, as well as Michelin and The Good Pub Guide. The latter two's restaurant and pub guide content is available as in-app purchases, as M8 adds the first paid features to its freemium model.
The other half of this equation is the addition of paid voices, including actors Kim Cattrall and Verne Troyer, for the turn-by-turn navigation functionality.
Telmap has also added a Community feature to encourage users to share tips and hints when travelling or exploring within the UK, adding to M8’s existing social media integration.
“We hope the updates will make a huge difference to users whether they’re using M8 to make a long journey, to locate a cash machine, to find the best spot for lunch, or to get the inside track on a new area, and of course, we believe that the updated app – jam packed with a full library of useful information – most certainly retains that fun, easy-to-use experience.”
