Tesco Trials In-store Scan and Pay App

tesco extraTesco is trialling a mobile payment service in a small number of its stores.

The app-based service is named PayQwiq, as reported by Marketing Week, and is currently being tested by Tesco staff members in 16 London and 26 Edinburgh stores.

The PayQwiq app, first mentioned by Tesco CEO Philip Clarke back in May, enables shoppers to scan their purchases at checkout, and pay for them using a stored credit card via a QR code.

A spokesperson for Tesco confirmed the pilot to Mobile Marketing, adding: “The response has so far been positive”.
